So it's been quite a while since I have uploaded anything at all... here are a few things I have noodled up in the last few weeks.. Im still working murals and faux finishing and learning high end venitian plaster ( kinda cool ) but my heart just isn't in it anymore. I just wanna draw and get better at this stuff.. so
Im leaving for Ohio tomorrow and will be out all week, while there I have decided to study Harry Carmean and, Heinrick Kley to bring my life drawing up to snuff and reading Don Bluth's book on storyboarding so I can have a better understanding of that end of the buisness, I have a lot of ideas I want to work on and only a rough idea of how to bring them to fruition.
There are a lot of things I have been thinking about lately and I hope to focus on some of them and write about them here and open them to discussion. Hope everyone is doing well.. take care all...

I dont know how much longer I'll be doing these as I am moving in with my girlfriend in Mid July ( since she got into CAL ARTS we're moving to Valencia or at least closer than Chatsworth) So this may be one of the last that I will throw ... at least for some time.. It's been a bit over 5 years now... It might be time to pass the torch anyhow... more on thatlater...

Just a few newer doodles I did for a friend as a request...

Ive been drooling over my newly aquired "Cartoon Modern" book for the past week and take it out and comb over it whenever I get a chance.. It really makes me appreciate what I do that much more... I really want to learn as much as I can and progress at a faster rate. I feel as if over the last year I have really taken the plunge and often find myself saying "I am committed to this... I am an artist, it's what I do.." and I feel really good about that...

you'll have to excuse the looseness if this post.. it's like 2:30 am and Im trying to recoop from a white mocha that was supposed to be a white hot cocoa.. cant sleep and my stomache is killin me... ugh!

So I got this Fantastic book last night before the session from my Kick Ass Friend Matt ( Darksuperhero.blogspot.com <-- dude is sick.. check him out )

anyhow I decided to drop this .... Its a cross betweeen Murdoc and what was kind of an idea of hellboy but I went in another direction... anyhow .. Love it for what it is... about 2 hours of a good time this morning......

btw.. It was draw out ..scanned ... printed out on a laser printer .. colored with copics and sharpie poster paint pens and then scanned again..

Ive just been working and working and working... and a bit depressed since I am still working construction. The time I have had to daw has been good though and I promise to share some of that with you as soon as I get this new macbook properly set up ( apparently the new macbook cannot run Photoshop cs2 so I have to wait for cs3... or maybe use painter to scan and import.. I dunno ) anyhow... The last few,, 5 or 6, weeks have just been work. It's jack hammering .. Sawing..hammer smashing fun.. fun not included.. I had an accident on the job last week where a large truck bed full of metal sheeting (which was attatched to a crane ) was being lowered down and I slipped and gt my leg pinned between the bed and a metal beam for a few seconds .. that was exciting, so no work for a week... 4 days in and Im ready to go back for the last 2 weeks or whatever and then go home for the holidays! ANYHOW! I hope everyone is doing well.. I promise to share some stuff soon.. it's been way too long .. if you want you can always see my stuff at

So I found out that I didnt get the job at Cartoon Network yesterday, I had tested for a design position on "My Gym Partner is a Monkey"... I was bummed no doubt.. but they hired Mike Kunkle.. ( Herobear and the Kid and Lead Designer on Juniper Lee ) and when I heard that I was like.. Had I known they were looking at Mike .. I dunno if I would have requested a test.. All in all Im really glad I did, It pushed me to do better work and I think I have come steps ahead of where I was. I hope Mike has fun on the show, he's a great designer and someone I admire a lot!
So Im back to looking for work .. Hopefully something will come along sooner than later... Just thought Id let ya all know.. thanks for being supportive and great friends!!!!

Also had a session last weekend.. It was a good time. I had fun seeing everyone despite the morning hangover sunday LOL

I totally fell off the 90 day challenge .. Im gonna have to try again some time soon and really put it down.
Last weekend I was at the Wizard World Comicbook Convention here in LA with my friend Matt "AmericanNinjaX" Humphreys.. It was a pretty good time.. met a few Kids from Deviant art and saw some other friends as well.. Alberto Ruiz, Patrick Morgan and Was reintroduced to Stephen Silver ( a really talented and nice guy!) It wasn't so much a money maker but it was good to touch base with some folks and see some great art.
In the next few weeks I am hoping to produce some great art and keep practicing hard.. As well as rock some more of these art battles.. Im currently participating in 2 over at the SketchTavern ( Sketchtavern.com/forum ) and crossin my fingers to do well enough to continue on..
anyhow.. Expect to see some new work in the next few days ... sorry about fallin off there... take it easy...

Im a slacker.... Im sorry... :(... With the rain the weekend brought a lack of inspiration and soreness...but here are some diddies I thought were worth sharing.. inks and some PPg stuff adn watching superman stuff too.. so... I'll get back on the ball.. had a great day .. picked up my portfolio at Nickelodeon got a relaly nice letter saying they'd keep me on file.. so I took the folio and resume over to cartoon network where I popped in on the old Camp Lazlo crew, It was fantastic seeing everyone again. So I was at the comic shop on thursday and finally picked up Frank Espinoza's book "Rocketo" and all I can say is Inspired and amazed.. I love that it's crazy different looking .. I've always been into more artsy feelling books.. Kabuki, the Maxx, books of that nature.. anyhow.. This was originally for a design I did called cowbucks.. but then thought it funnier if the cow worked at Platypus's .. I dunno. I like this drawing better and all around the photoshop version feels more lively than the illustrator version.... which I suppose is usually true of most photoshop versus Illustrator things... On my way home from Merced I was on the train and met a great smiling face named Lillian.. She was 9 and was full of all sorts of questions about my drawing and about the stuff on my computer, so I showed her a few tricks with shapes and was trying to explain how I got them on the computer.. Needless to say I suck at explaining things so.. I decided to give her a quick tutorial on how to use shapes to make a picture.. In illustrator no doubt.. so without a scan here is our compilation piece that we did.. It's not really FANTASTIC.. but I thought it was cool and wanted to share.. without further adue.. heres an owl!

A few things for the sessions...
1. Contributions are always welcome ( Food , Drinks ( soda, beer, booze whatever! , cups, napkins, plates , that kind of stuff... )

2. RSVP's are not required BUT are appreciated.. I like to know how many people Im hosting for.. It makes it easier to set the house up.

3. Just so new people know .. we have always had a no shoes in the house policy so wear clean socks.. *L* that and I always feel more comfy in socks anyhow,,

4. People always ask .. "can I bring my spouse or girlfriend?? " If they draw ... YES .. otherwise they are gonna be bored ,,, Lots of geek talk ( btw you can always call me or e-mail me and ask if you really really want them )

5. FOOD.. Sometimes we order pizza ( like 90 % of the time ) sometimes not... it's usually like $5.00 per person ( $ 5.00 deal at dominos ) .. anyhow.. so if you arent into pizza you may wanna eat ahead of time..

As usual bring drawing supplies and if you wanna share stuff ( like cool books and such ) thats always welcome too...... we try and NOT watch tv but it happens from time to time....

Hey gang whats crackalakin!!!!! So over christmas weekend I had a good deal of down time to get some more practice in illustrator in.. the Pirate is a continuation of where I want to go with him.. Im gonna work on making him more expressive but for now I feel like he's pretty good... the cowbucks piece is just a little workout I did for fun.. and as for that little house.. well I have to give Lots o props to Darryl "DIDDLE" Young .. It's from his sketch and he was wonderful enough to allow me to play on it and post it up... thanks for all the kind words.. everyone has been really uplifting and wonderful.. I hope soon to be back to work somewhere making more great stuff for everyones enjoyment.. until then though.. I'll draw draw draw and Blog it up.. Haven't been able to produce anything worth posting yet today .. hoping that by pushing myself I'll get lucky with something good... I've been really inspired by whats going on in comics in europe ( watching some blogs.. man there are some Bad Ass folks out there.. ) lots of new inventive stuff. Hoping that I can push my own stuff to a new level soon... Hope to post something visually pleasing later,,, until then .. take it easy..

Finding the flow... and it feels good

I dont know why it is works this way for me , but, it always seems to take me longer to catch on to things than it does or did for others... I've always seen myself as a late bloomer, which isnt neccessarily a bad thing.. I take my time .. really study things.. try and figure out the right way to approach them, accepting all the mishaps as a learning experience.
Since I got the job at Cartoon Network I feel like Ive learned a ton. There are sooo many amazing artists working there, I try and ask a lot of questions and take in as much as I can. It has proven to be really difficult and so Ive had to restructure what Im trying to do and really focus.It's been 3 months + and I think Im finally feeling and finding the flow of the show I'm working on .. It seemed easy enough to start but now Im finding that there are a great deal of rules and design elements I really have to pay attention to... All that make every thing I do work or not work. It is amazing to finally feel like Im on track.. I cant wait to have my friends adn family see what I have been a part of, Im really proud of it.. and proud of myself for being able to accomplish what I have.. It's an awesom feeling...

So I went in to see if our freelance stuff was ready today... I didnt get a call til almost noon so when I got there it was close to 1ish... Then got nothin and was told to bounce til they can figure out how much time to give us for freelance.... Thats ok in my book .. at least today... I really started to feel the pull to make stuff this weekend and Im hoping its a rebirth in inspiration... I was reading the new Juxtapose today and saw all these names of guys I have met and guys I have followed in the Art Community for the past 10-15 years.. I have said in the past that I really dont want to be HUGE.. but it wouldnt hurt to be known.. So I think it's high time I get off my ass and really start to get prolific about creating more art than ever before.. I have stacks and stacks of paper full of sketches .. doodles.. Ideas . thoughts and crap all over my room . all over my studio... Its like the little pig who lived in a house of paper... Time to turn those pages into something ... It's time to make something amazing happen for me... for once I feel like.. IT'S TIME!

So I have a myspace account and Ive been putting my blog up there and thats pretty cool but I figured something more personal where I could post pics and stuff would be cool too.. I suppose if someone really wanted to know how I think and get to where Im going in art.. this will be the place to look from now on...so.....
Art has always been one of those things in my life that is totally consistent... like breathing and sleeping.. I think it's probably one of the few things I do exceptionally well on a consitent basis.. Though I dont like to do much else, The world seems like a really messed up place right now.. though it kind of has been throughout history we just have more real time access to all of it at once now... and by all of it I mean ALL OF IT... the internet and satellites and tv and papers report anything they can and well it just feels like way to much for me .. so I delve into this place inside of myself that I can call my own and create an environment I want to be in ... this should be a nice experiment in who I am... even for me

by the way.. Im a crappy speller... I already know this...
